Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Video Downloader — Video Hunter (“Video Hunter,” the “Extension,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you install or use the Extension. It explains what information is accessed, why it is needed, when it may leave your browser, how long it is kept, and which choices are available to you.

Video Hunter has one primary purpose: helping users identify, preview, manage, and download video or audio that they are legally permitted to save from websites they choose to use. Media detection requires access to parts of the current webpage and its network activity. Video Hunter does not sell user data or use it for targeted advertising, behavioral profiling, or credit decisions.

For certain platform-specific features, the Extension displays a consent notice before the additional processing begins. Selecting the affirmative button authorizes the processing described in that notice and in this Policy.

1. Purpose and Scope

This Policy applies to the Video Hunter extension for Microsoft Edge, including its popup, side panel, media preview player, download tools, locally stored extension data, and online services used to support those functions.

Websites, media platforms, content-delivery networks, independent video-processing providers, Microsoft Edge, and other external services have their own privacy practices. This Policy explains Video Hunter’s role but does not replace the policies of those third parties.

2. Information Used to Detect and Download Media

Microsoft Edge extension policies treat the accessing, processing, storing, transmitting, or sharing of user information as data handling. The disclosures below therefore include information processed only on your device as well as information transmitted over a network.

2.1 Current page and media context

While Video Hunter is active, it may process information needed to identify media in the current browsing context, including:

• the URL, domain, origin, and title of the active webpage;

• the addresses of frames and embedded content associated with that page;

• relevant HTML, structured data, page metadata, media elements, inline configuration, and player information;

• video, audio, playlist, manifest, thumbnail, and content-delivery URLs;

• supported media formats and streaming resources, including MP4, WebM, M3U8/HLS, MPD/DASH, audio, and related segments;

• network details such as request URL, request method, initiator, tab or frame identifier, response status, content type, content length, and relevant request or response metadata;

• media details supplied by the source, such as title, displayed author or account name, thumbnail, duration, dimensions, quality, format, MIME type, and estimated file size.

Video Hunter uses this information to recognize media, associate it with the correct tab, present available options, prepare a requested download, and avoid processing unsupported or restricted sources.

2.2 Request bodies and service parameters

Some websites provide video information through API calls, GraphQL requests, or form submissions instead of ordinary media elements. For supported detection flows, Video Hunter may inspect relevant request bodies or parameters locally to determine which media is displayed or selected. The current version uses this capability only for matching video-related requests, including certain flows on Instagram, Facebook, and VK.

Video Hunter is not designed to use this access to read passwords, payment information, private communications, or unrelated form entries. Requests that do not match a supported media-detection rule are not used to generate a download result.

2.3 Existing sessions, cookies, and service tokens

A source website may make media information available only within your existing signed-in session. When necessary, Video Hunter may send an additional request to that website or an associated content-delivery service. Microsoft Edge may automatically attach cookies belonging to the requested domain. The Extension may also use service-generated values already available in the page or its requests, such as CSRF tokens, application identifiers, bearer tokens, request signatures, or similar values.

This may occur in supported workflows involving Instagram, Facebook, X / Twitter, Vimeo, VK, and other source websites. Session-related information is used only to request media information or files already available in your current session. Video Hunter does not ask for or store your account password, does not request permission to read the browser’s complete cookie database, and does not intentionally disclose one platform’s session credentials to an unrelated processing provider.

2.4 Media files and streaming segments

When you initiate a download, Video Hunter may retrieve the selected media file or the individual parts of a supported HLS or DASH stream. The Extension may temporarily keep segments in browser-managed storage, assemble them into a downloadable file, maintain progress information, and create a temporary local address for the completed media.

If a supported HLS playlist references an encryption-key URL, Video Hunter may retrieve that key from the same media source and apply it locally while assembling the stream. The Extension is not intended to obtain DRM licences, extract protected-content keys, defeat access controls, or provide unauthorized access to premium or restricted media.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

To keep its interface and download workflow functioning, Video Hunter may store the following in Microsoft Edge storage or IndexedDB:

• interface preferences, including theme and display choices;

• lists of detected media associated with relevant browser tabs;

• download identifiers, progress, status, and information required to resume or clean up a download;

• temporary streaming segments and assembled media data;

• platform-specific consent decisions and pending consent state;

• the current configuration and blocker information used by the Extension;

• limited installation and operational values used for product, welcome, support, rating, or donation links.

This information supports the Extension’s operation and is not used to create an advertising profile.

4. Consent-Based Platform Features

TikTok, Instagram, and X / Twitter may require additional processing beyond ordinary media detection. Video Hunter presents a separate notice for the relevant platform before enabling that processing. If you choose Cancel, the additional feature stays disabled. If you choose Allow and reload, your decision is saved locally for that platform, the page reloads, and the approved processing may begin when matching content is found. This may include media embedded on another site and may occur before you press Download.

4.1 TikTok

After consent, Video Hunter may read media information made available by TikTok, request information from TikTok-related endpoints, or submit the TikTok video URL to an independent third-party video-processing service. The purpose of that submission is limited to obtaining video details and usable download links.

Requests made to the independent processing service are configured without your TikTok browser credentials and without your TikTok cookies. The provider receives the submitted video URL and standard information associated with an internet request, processes the URL, and returns media information. Independent providers operate under their own privacy, security, and retention practices.

4.2 Instagram

Video Hunter may examine relevant Instagram API or GraphQL parameters and make additional HTTPS requests to Instagram to find videos accessible to your current session. Those requests may include your Instagram cookies through normal browser behavior and may use an Instagram application identifier, CSRF token, or other Instagram-generated value. Instagram session information is used with Instagram and is not intentionally sent to an unrelated TikTok-processing provider.

4.3 X / Twitter

To identify video attached to a post, Video Hunter may request post or player information from X / Twitter and its embedded-post or content-delivery services. Some API or embedded-post requests are made without browser credentials. When a relevant X / Twitter page is loaded to locate its media configuration, Microsoft Edge may use your existing session where the platform requires it.

4.4 Other supported sources

For supported sources such as Facebook, Vimeo, and VK, Video Hunter may repeat a media-related request to the same platform, retrieve a player configuration, or request metadata using session information available for that platform. It may also set or adjust limited request headers, including Referer or Origin, where the media host requires those headers to return a resource already available in your browsing context.

5. Information Sent Outside the Browser

Depending on the feature you use, limited information may be transmitted to:

• Source websites and their media infrastructure: relevant page URLs, media URLs, request parameters, session-supported requests, and media metadata may be sent to the website you are using or its associated API or content-delivery network.

• Independent TikTok processing providers: after your consent, a TikTok video URL may be submitted to a third-party video-processing service solely to return media information or download links. The names or domains of these providers may change as services become unavailable or are replaced.

• Video Hunter services: the Extension contacts data.getvideohunter.com to retrieve its current configuration and blocker information. It may open pages on getvideohunter.com for welcome, support, privacy, copyright-report, blog, rating, or donation functions.

• Google and casting services: the interface may request font resources from Google-hosted font services. If you choose to cast compatible media, Video Hunter communicates with Google Cast components and the selected device as necessary to perform that action.

• Legal or security recipients: information may be disclosed where reasonably required to respond to valid legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse or fraud, or maintain the security of the Extension and its services.

• Business successors: information may be transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, financing, or sale of assets only as permitted by applicable law and extension-store policies, including any required consent.

Video Hunter does not sell or license user data to advertising networks, data brokers, or information resellers. It does not use browsing information for personalized, interest-based, or retargeted advertising.

6. Other Information You May Provide

If you contact us for support or submit a copyright-related request, you may voluntarily provide your name, email address, organization, message, relevant webpage address, and documents or links supporting your request. We use this information to communicate with you, investigate the issue, evaluate the request, maintain appropriate records, and comply with legal obligations.

Video Hunter does not require an account and does not ask users to submit payment information or create a profile in order to use the Extension.

7. Standard Network and Server Information

Whenever the Extension contacts a website or online service, the receiving service may process standard network information, such as the IP address, date and time, user agent, requested resource, and ordinary HTTP headers. Servers controlled by Video Hunter may retain limited security and access logs to operate the service, diagnose failures, prevent abuse, and protect the reliability of its infrastructure.

The current Extension does not contain third-party behavioral advertising or analytics code and does not transmit general browsing history to an advertising or analytics platform.

8. How the Information Is Used

Video Hunter uses handled information only when reasonably necessary to:

• detect video and audio on the current page and inside embedded frames;

• retrieve media metadata and available download variants;

• display titles, thumbnails, quality, format, duration, dimensions, and file size;

• preview media when you request it;

• start, monitor, resume, cancel, and complete downloads;

• fetch and assemble supported HLS or DASH media;

• copy a media link, generate a QR code, or cast compatible media when you select that function;

• remember interface settings and platform-specific consent decisions;

• prevent unsupported or restricted sources from being processed;

• load operational configuration and provide product, support, copyright, rating, donation, or welcome links;

• secure the Extension, investigate failures or abuse, and meet legal obligations.

9. Microsoft Edge Permissions

The current version requests the following permissions for its disclosed media-detection and download functions:

• Access to all URLs: allows Video Hunter to detect media on user-selected webpages and retrieve files from related media hosts.

• All frames: allows detection inside iframes and other embedded page contexts.

• Tabs: identifies the relevant tab, reads its URL or title where needed, associates media with that tab, and reloads a page after platform-specific consent.

• Storage: saves preferences, media lists, download state, configuration, blocker information, and consent decisions locally.

• Unlimited storage: provides space for temporary streaming segments and larger downloads assembled within the browser.

• Scripting: runs the packaged Video Hunter content script on supported webpages and their frames.

• Web request: observes relevant request and response information and, for matching media workflows, may inspect a request body to identify downloadable media.

• Offscreen: supports browser-managed background processing required to assemble certain media files.

• Declarative network request with host access: applies packaged rules that set limited request headers for particular supported media sources.

• Downloads: saves requested files and enables progress tracking, supported resumption, and cancellation.

• Notifications: displays download completion, failure, cancellation, and related status messages.

• Side panel: makes the media list and controls available through the Microsoft Edge side panel.

These permissions are used only for the Extension’s stated purpose and the operational tasks directly supporting that purpose.

10. Retention

Information is kept only for the period reasonably needed for the relevant function:

• temporary stream segments remain on the device while a download is assembled or resumed and are scheduled for cleanup after completion, cancellation, failure, or expiration;

• detected-media entries are tied to browser tabs and are removed when no longer required;

• preferences, download state, configuration, blocker information, and consent decisions may remain in local Extension storage until replaced, cleared, or removed with the Extension;

• files you download remain in the location managed by Microsoft Edge and are not automatically removed when Extension storage is cleared;

• support emails and copyright requests may be retained as reasonably necessary to respond, keep records, protect legal rights, and comply with law;

• Video Hunter security and access logs may be retained for a limited period appropriate to reliability, security, abuse prevention, and legal requirements.

External websites and independent processing providers determine retention within their own systems. Video Hunter does not control those retention periods.

11. Your Choices

• You may refuse additional TikTok, Instagram, or X / Twitter processing by selecting Cancel when the consent notice appears.

• You may clear a saved platform-specific consent decision by clearing the Extension’s local data or removing and reinstalling the Extension.

• You may restrict or revoke Video Hunter’s access to websites through Microsoft Edge extension controls, although doing so may prevent media detection or downloading from working.

• You may disable Extension notifications through Microsoft Edge or your operating-system settings.

• You may stop a download through Video Hunter or Microsoft Edge download controls.

• You may remove the Extension at any time. Removal clears browser-managed Extension storage according to Microsoft Edge behavior but does not delete files that you previously downloaded.

• You may contact us regarding access, correction, or deletion of personal information that you voluntarily submitted directly to Video Hunter, subject to applicable law and information that must be retained for legal or security purposes.

12. Security

Video Hunter uses reasonable technical and organizational safeguards intended to protect the information it handles. Services controlled by Video Hunter and the independent processing services contacted by the current version use HTTPS. Platform-specific session information is used only in the corresponding platform context and is not intentionally made public.

Local Extension data is managed by Microsoft Edge and the operating system and is not separately encrypted by Video Hunter. No network or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. You remain responsible for protecting your device, browser profile, source-site accounts, and downloaded files.

13. Limited and Permitted Use of Data

Video Hunter limits its access, use, and transfer of information to the media-detection and download functions prominently described to users and to directly related operational, security, support, and legal purposes.

In particular:

• data is used only to provide or improve the Extension’s disclosed user-facing purpose and necessary supporting operations;

• data is transferred only where needed to perform that purpose, provide security, comply with law, or complete another transfer permitted by applicable extension-store rules;

• user data is not sold or transferred to data brokers or information resellers;

• user data is not used or transferred for personalized advertising;

• user data is not used to determine eligibility for credit, lending, employment, housing, insurance, or similar services;

• access by people is limited to situations where you specifically request support or submit information, where access is required for security or abuse investigation, where the law requires it, or where permitted aggregated and anonymized information is used for internal operations.

14. Children’s Privacy

Video Hunter is not directed to children who are below the age at which they may independently consent to data processing under the laws that apply to them. We do not knowingly request personal information from children through the Extension. If you believe that a child has submitted personal information directly to Video Hunter, contact us so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

15. International Processing

Websites and external services used by the Extension may process information in countries other than your country of residence. Privacy and data-protection laws may differ between those countries. Where required, Video Hunter applies reasonable safeguards to international transfers of personal information under its control.

16. Copyright and Lawful Use

Video Hunter is intended only for downloading media that you own, media for which you have the copyright holder’s permission, or media that you are otherwise legally entitled to save. You are responsible for complying with applicable copyright laws, website terms, access restrictions, and other legal requirements.

The Extension is not intended to bypass DRM, paywalls, subscriptions, login restrictions, protected streams, or other access controls. Video Hunter may restrict or discontinue support for sources associated with protected, restricted, or unlawfully distributed material.

If you are a copyright owner or an authorized representative and believe that the use of Video Hunter affects your rights, email us with your organization name, contact information, identification of the relevant webpage or content, and evidence of your authority to act.

17. Updates to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy when Video Hunter’s functionality, legal requirements, or Microsoft Edge Add-ons policies change. The updated version will be published with a revised “Last updated” date. If a change introduces materially different data handling, Video Hunter will provide any additional notice or consent required before the new processing begins.
